Photos from a week in the South of France in the Gard region. Stayed in a wonderful villa (with pool!) and walked and cycled through the surrounding countryside in the blazing sunshine.

We were staying in the hamlet of Privat, in a renovated villa ("La Parran") with swimming pool, surrounded by vineyards and lush countryside.

I cycled to a monastry, Chartreuse de Valbonne, followed by a visit to the limestone rock formations on the River Cèze and the nearby village la Roque sur Cèze.

Wednesday took us to the nearby town of Goudargues to look around the market.

Thursday dawned, and I fancied trying to reach the Ardèche river where it twists and winds through a gorge. The area is a nature reserve and it promised some spectacular views. I wasn't disappointed.

After a full and tiring day cycling to the Ardèche river, on Friday I just made a short trip to the next village, Cornillon, to look around.
